Ground and Pound in the Round at OKTOBER FIST

Ultimate Event Promotions, LLC, (UEP) presented their OKTOBER FIST Cage Fight event October 25, 2008, at the Daphne Civic Center.  Fans traveled from as far as Tennessee to cheer on the Mixed Martial Arts cage fighters who had traveled from as far West as Lubbock, TX, and as far Northeast as Summerville, SC.

Twenty-two amateur cage fighters and eight Pros demonstrated their fighting expertise in many diverse fighting styles.  Amateurs fought for three rounds of three minutes each with professional bouts being three rounds at five minutes each. Fight results were reported to all the major MMA ranking organizations.

UEP boasted a full fight card of eleven Amateur bouts and four Professional Bouts featuring athletes from Extreme Force from Lexington, KY; Team Deadpool with Animal House Gym in Augusta, GA; Black for Cell C from Summerville, SC; Team Ice USA Martial Arts in Ocala, FL; DUBJJ Combat Team, Largo/St Petersburg, FL and Pitbull Brigade at Mean Streets Gym in Idalou, TX.

Mississippi MMA teams represented were Next Level Fight Team from Long Beach; Dixson's Dungeon in Biloxi; Gracie South Gym in Jackson; Remix (Alan "The Talent" Belcher) in D'Iberville and Team Krypto-Knight from Meridian, MS.

Alabama MMA teams competing were Team Tomaso in Fairhope, Team Pitbull in Bay Minette, Team Maverick in Huntsville and BYC Hardcore MMA (Team Rellik) from Mobile.

The Main Event was a reunion of Light Heavyweights Mike “The Machine” Perez versus Jason “The Predator” Floyd, his first opponent when he started cage fighting four years ago.  Floyd, a 29-year old Muay Thai fighter, trains with Remix MMA in D’Iberville, MS, that is owned by UFC veteran Alan “The Talent” Belcher; Perez is a 34-year old striker from Jackson, MS.

In a post fight interview, Floyd commented “My fight was pretty simple. I just jabbed a lot and used my teep kicks (that's Thai for front pushing kick) to keep him away. In the second round I went for a triangle choke but he was defending well and I switched to an omaplata shoulder lock and swept him with it. It was actually a teep to the stomach that hurt him in the third round. I threw a flying knee and it landed and from there I just threw lots of punches. When he tried to get up I caught him in a guillotine and finished him with it.”

This was a good victory for Floyd with over a hundred Jason Floyd fans, representing Remix MMA, cheering him ringside when Perez tapped out. With the OKTOBER FIST win, Floyd improves his pro record to 3 wins, 1 loss and 2 TKOs. Perez falls to 9-4-6.

If you are interested in seeing some of the best mixed martial arts fighters in the South, there's no better place than the Daphne Civic Center on January 17, 2009.  Once again, UEP is bringing the fastest growing sport on the planet –- MMA Cage Fighting -- to the Alabama Gulf Coast at NEW YEAR’S KNOCKOUT.
